Everything here is general information and operational explanation. It does not constitute investment, financial, legal or tax advice, and it is not an offer or recommendation to buy or sell anything.

We do not know your financial position, your risk tolerance or your circumstances, so nothing here should be treated as advice tailored to you. Make your own judgement, and take professional advice where it is warranted.

The risks of crypto assets

Stated bluntly:

  • Prices can fall sharply and you can lose your entire stake. There is no capital protection and no deposit insurance.
  • The market runs continuously with no daily limits; prices can move significantly while you are asleep.
  • Leverage, perpetual contracts and high-yield products carry markedly higher risk and can cost your whole margin in a short time.
  • On-chain transfers are irreversible. A wrong address or a wrong network usually means the funds cannot be recovered.
  • Losing a private key or seed phrase means the funds are permanently unreachable, and no institution can restore them.
  • The platform you use carries its own risks of solvency, compliance and security breaches.
  • Stablecoins are not equivalent to bank deposits; both their price and their reserve arrangements carry risk.

Rules differ by jurisdiction

Treatment of crypto assets varies enormously between jurisdictions and continues to change. Some places restrict holding, trading or payment uses, some impose specific reporting duties, and some restrict further still.

Check the current rules where you live before doing anything. This site does not target any particular jurisdiction and does not assess whether an action is lawful where you are — only you or your professional adviser can establish that.

Accuracy and currency

Platform rules, fees, product terms and interfaces change. Wherever this site covers them it says to check the exchange's current page, and it avoids fixed figures. Even so, content may not match present reality.

Errors we find get corrected and recorded on the corrections page. We make no warranty as to completeness, accuracy or currency, and we accept no liability for decisions taken on the basis of this content.
